Gryningspyromaner.

Photography by Venetia Scott for Another Magazine (year/issue unknown, but please tell me, if you know).

Gosh, it's been a while since I posted some inspirational editorials! Partly because I've been buried in work, and still is, but also because I haven't really stumbled on to anything I've liked. Until now. This editorial, from 2006 or 2007 I think, is so great. I really love the concept and the styling. Now, all I wanna do is escape from a wintery Sweden to a sunny hot California. Yes please!

Tror du att kärlek är som sångerna vi hör?

Good morning, and HAPPY HALLOWEEN everybody! You might not know this, but Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year. It's the Tim Burton-obsessed child in me, I assure you. :) Anyways, I thought I'd set the mood of the day with some super-creepy spirit photography. These were taken by a British medium called William Hope in the 1910's and 20's. Of course it's obvious, today, that these are double-exposures, but I still find them kinda scary. And it's so fascinating to think about what photography has been used for in history, what it has meant to people. Plus, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was a big fan of Hope. How cool is that?

P.S. Read more about the people in the photos, and experience more creepyness here. D.S.

Här går vi med en tyst melodi, ensamma i hela stan.

I really love Stockholm today, as you know. I think it can be so breathtaking at times, it almost hurts. But my dream would be to travel back in time to experience Stockholm in the 1940's, 50's or 60's. Oh, to dream...

P.S. I feel so much better today, thanks for caring, guys! And today is my favorite day of the week, so I have no doubts that today will be a lovely day. D.S.

Illustrations by Hans Arnold.

Gosh, the new just reached me that my childhood hero, illustrator Hans Arnold, has passed away. I've loved his work since the day I first climbed one of the high bookshelves in my fathers little library and slipped out a heavy book of horror stories. I was a child obsessed with the Addams Family and ghosts and folklore, and he drew these scary fairytales best of all. Rest in peace and thank you, Mr Arnold! You will be missed.

Oh, maskerad för hjärtat!

Photography by Pierre Louis Pierson, 1856-1893.

One of the best things about studying Fashion Studies is that I'm constantly presented with new photographers and muses, and thus I'm constantly inspired. One of my latest obsessions is Countess Castiglione, photographed by French 19th century photographer Pierre Louis Pierson. She was this flamboyant courtesan who loved to dress up and make great entrances(her outfit as the Queen of Hearts caused a great fuss at the French court). She worked closely with Pierson to create 700 photographs depicting herself in different costumes, as different characters, and she really pushed the boundaries of the time by exposing her bare arms, legs and feet in several photos. In short: she was kind of amazing. I just love to think about these people who developed and inspired photography in the beginning, they remind me why I fell in love with analog photography in the first place.

Stackars Lola.

Photography by Thomas Klementsson for Swedish Elle (2007, I think?).

I was rummaging through some of the moving boxes yesterday, and found my box of favorite editorials. I love this one, because of the light, the beautiful editing and the spot on styling (by Liselotte Watkins). So inspiring!

Photography by Tommy Ton for style.com

I very seldom visit streetstyle blogs anymore, mostly because I think they've all gotten too polished and synthetic these last couple of years. I remember loving to check out Stockholm Streetstyle et al when they first started up, but now it's like they don't even shoot people on the street anymore. I mean; what I liked about street style photography was getting inspiration from others like me, to see what they did with their clothes and style. Now it's all about the models/editors/stylists propped up outside the fashion shows, which makes it less "real" for me I guess. The only street style photographer that still inspire me with his photos is Tommy Ton, because he manages to keep it interesting. I might be imaginging this, but I feel like he cares about what the clothing he's shooting says about the person wearing them, and I like that intimacy. What do you guys think?

I den sortens värld som vi hör hemma i.

The rain is pouring down outside my window. Let's dream ourselves away to California, and let's pretend we're surfer girls, okay?

Dårar rusar in dit visa mänskor aldrig går. Men visa mänskor blir aldrig förälskade, så hur skulle de kunna veta?

Photograhy by Jimmy Backlund for Swedish Elle August 2010.

There are few editorials that really wow me nowadays, but this one blew me away when I first saw it. The styling by Lisa Lindqwister is flawless (can't stop craving that D&G knit in the last photo), not to mention the photography. It's inspired me so much this fall, and I know it's one of those series of photographs I'll keep and come back to years from now. And that, to me, is a big part of what fashion photography is all about. I hope I'll create things to inspire people like this some day too.
